Designed For: Directors of nursing and registered nurses who want to develop or enhance their leadership and management skills.
This course is designed for directors of nursing and other registered nurses who are in or approaching management positions in long-term skilled nursing facilities. Sessions focus on leadership and management competencies that support excellence in resident care and employee satisfaction. Emphasis is on practical approaches to specific challenges and responsibilities faced by nurse leaders and managers in long-term care.

- Principles of exemplary leadership
- Management functions with emphasis on elements of the nursing process
- State and federal regulations and their impact on quality of care and quality of life
- Strategies to maintain survey readiness and manage the state survey process
- Self care methods that support creativity and satisfaction
- Professional and ethical accountability
- Quality assurance and quality improvement strategies
- Financial and budgetary management
- Human resource development
Each session includes lecture, discussion of practical applications to individual work settings, reflective learning, group work and networking.
