Designed For: nurses interested in a comprehensive medical-surgical review and/or in preparing for certification or recertification in medical-surgical nursing
This 14-week course provides a comprehensive update on key topics in evidence-based medical-surgical nursing practice.
The curriculum is designed to meet two goals: 1) enhance practice in medical-surgical nursing and 2) assist nurses in pursuing national certification in medical-surgical nursing. Certification is a mechanism for protecting the public by clearly identifying nurses and agencies committed to the highest standards of professional preparation and to the highest quality of patient care. Content includes didactic instruction, test-taking skill development, and a strong component of mentoring for success in certification. Teaching methods include lecture, discussion, and collegial interchange.
New graduates should contact their Agency Coordinator about certification eligibility requirements.
COURSE FORMAT & SITES
The course will be presented live at the University of Washington Health Sciences Center and transmitted via videoconference to sites in Washington, Alaska, Oregon and Idaho. Some sites access the course on a delayed schedule via videorecordings.
