Wound Assessment & Documentation

No matter what kind of healthcare professional you may be, you will undoubtedly encounter wounds in your practice. As wound management becomes more complex, nurses must be able to provide accurate, timely, and comprehensive assessment of wounds. This course is designed for nurses who want to improve their assessment of wounds and wound healing.

  • Components of the patient assessment
  • Components of the wound assessment
  • Components of the healing process
  • Factors that affect wound healing
  • Signs and symptoms of wound infection

  • Two videostreamed lectures
  • Handouts of the lecture slides
  • Interactive module for assessment and documentation practice
  • Short post-test requiring a score of at least 80%
  • Course evaluation

Course Objectives
After taking this course, you will be better able to:

  1. Describe the purpose of an initial wound assessment.
  2. Identify three local barriers to healing.
  3. Identify three systemic factors that adversely effect wound healing.
  4. Identify two clinical indicators of wound healing.
  5. Identify the signs and symptoms of wound infection.
