Neonatal Drug Therapy - 2010

This online course is designed as a pharmacology update for nurse practitioners at the advanced practice level. Each module focuses on current recommendations and controversies regarding drug therapy for common problems encountered in the neonatal intensive care unit and include appropriate pharmacotherapeutic principles and recommendations for patient education.

Lectures were recorded in March 2010 at a conference in Seattle, Washington sponsored by the University of Washington School of Nursing. Teaching methods include lecture and downloadable handouts.

Course Objectives
After taking this course, you will be better able to:

  1. Describe relevant principles of physiology, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.
  2. Give a rationale for selecting a drug of choice.
  3. Identify the goals of drug therapy.
  4. Identify desired drug effects and evaluate patient response.
  5. Describe special dosage situations.
  6. Identify appropriate patient learning needs.
