This two-in-one conference is designed as an adult, geriatric and neuropsychotropic pharmacology update at the advanced practice level. Sessions focus on current recommendations and controversies regarding drug therapy for common adult, geriatric and neuropsychiatric health concerns. Teaching methods include lecture, discussion and case analysis.

Adult/Geriatric Track

  1. Compare and contrast federal law and state laws regarding the use of marijuana.
  2. Describe collaborative priority setting for older diabetic patients.

  5. Identify the indications for use of pharmacotherapy for obesity.
  6. Discuss clinical use of buprenorphine for opioid addiction.
  7. Discuss pharmacology specifically related to the Advanced Heart Failure population.

Neuropsychotropic Track

  1. Explain changes in sleep patterns across the life span.
  2. Define the ADME (administration, distribution, metabolism, excretion) of pharmacokinetics.
  3. Identify three important skills in prescribing and managing patients’ neuropsychotropic medications and describe how those skills can enhance outcomes.
  4. Identify 3-5 emerging drugs that are currently being abused.
  5. Revisit original data that led to antidepressant warnings about suicidality, review changes in prescribing patterns and suicide attempts that have ensued and summarize current evidence about this topic.
  6. Discuss clinical use of buprenorphine for opioid addiction
