NEW Virtual Format

Due to ongoing concerns regarding the COVID-19 virus, this program will be hosted as a hybrid virtual classroom via Canvas and Zoom. Start each day of the conference together at 8am with a live Keynote Address followed by several exhibitor presentations and live networking breakout sessions. Then, view the asynchronous sessions at your own pace. At the end of the conference, fill out an evaluation and print your own certificate. You will have access to all lecture videos and handouts for one year.

Description

The medical-surgical setting today presents unique, complex and varied patient care challenges. This conference is an opportunity to review and update your medical-surgical clinical practice and acquire new assessment and management strategies. Healthcare professionals are invited to advance their knowledge of evidence-based practices that promote care innovations, collaboration and confidence among team members. Teaching methods include lecture, discussion, case study analysis and collegial interchange.

Poster Abstracts Invited

Submit your update in nursing practice, process improvement or a skill refresher poster for display at this conference! We’re excited to have this opportunity to offer additional topics for your learning and professional growth as well as skill development. Consider submitting a poster on a clinical case study, a nurse led improvement project and/or an educational refresher on a nursing skill. The poster presentation will be held virtually via the Canvas classroom.

Objectives for Learning Outcomes

Day 1

At the conclusion of the conference, you will be better able to:

  1. List three key elements which inpatient nurses need to know about Telehealth, and how it impacts inpatient nursing care.
  2. Explain the epidemiology of COVID-19.
  3. Discuss the respiratory variability in clinical presentation of patients with COVID-19.
  4. Describe the philosophy of Whole health; specifically, how integrative medicine approaches can be beneficial to patients & providers.
  5. Understand how to initiate treatment for OUD during acute hospitalization.
  6. Understand how to improve documentation and communication to prevent and defend litigation.

Day 2

At the conclusion of the conference, you will be better able to:

  1. Examine pharmacologic treatment of alcohol withdrawal.
  2. Describe the role of the inpatient nurse in providing primary palliative care and advocating for specialty palliative care for patients across the lifespan.
  3. Describe indicators of clinical deterioration and utilize critical thinking to recognize need and methods to intervene.
