Specialty Program | I.V. Therapy Online Program

This 30-hour online program provides basic knowledge of I.V. therapy practice for nurses and other members of the healthcare team. Content includes five chapters of recorded audio/slide presentations, a live peripheral I.V. catheter insertion demonstration, videos of two live implanted venous port access (and de-access) demonstrations, a downloadable workbook (133 pages), a post-test following each chapter, two clinical example assignments and a required reading assignment on legal aspects of I.V. therapy. Contact hour requirements include successfully completing all learning activities and submitting the program evaluation.

Please Note: The practice of I.V. Therapy must be performed according to an individual's state scope of practice for their discipline and/or level of licensure. It is the responsibility of the participant in this training to verify that I.V. therapy is within the scope of their licensure/certification by contacting their licensing/certifying body prior to signing up for this course.

Completion Requirements

To earn contact hours for this activity set:

  • View the presentations.
  • Study the handouts and fill out the workbook.
  • Achieve 80% or higher on all six exams. You can take the exams as many times as you wish.
  • Complete and submit two Clinical Example assignments.
  • Complete required reading.
  • Complete the six course evaluations and the overall course evaluation. 

After submitting all the required items above, you can download and print your certificate. A record of contact hours earned will be in your account for six years.
