After completing this course, you should be able to:

  1. Identify current I.V. devices used for peripheral I.V. access.
  2. Describe the vascular anatomy related to peripheral and central catheters.
  3. State four appropriate methods for the assessment and distention of veins for peripheral catheterization.
  4. Demonstrate the basic steps involved in the insertion of a peripheral catheter.
  5. Implement accepted standards of care for peripheral catheters.
