After reviewing the steps for the insertion of a peripheral IV catheter and viewing the video demonstration, I realized why my attempts to insert a peripheral IV catheter are often unsuccessful!  Now I understand why the vein "blows" when I attempt to advance the IV catheter....so I altered my insertion technique yesterday when I placed an IV on a patient by lowering the catheter slightly once I had obtained the blood return, then advancing the device slightly, then threaded the IV catheter into the vein and I was successful. My confidence has improved related to the insertion of IV catheters because of the education I received from this course.
